JC6 & CD47 Advisory Committee
The Advisory Committee is composed of six area residents, and is working with members of the Le Sueur River Watershed Network, Waseca County, and Waseca SWCD staff. The Board will serve as the guiding hang to define local management options for flood management.
The Committee convened for the first time at the New Richland Area Sportsmen's Club on August 24, 2016. At this meeting, the purpose was defined as well as action items for the 2016 fall and winter seasons. In addition, there was consensus that development and posting of a series of information articles in the local newspaper, New Richland Star Eagle, describing updates and management strategies in other communities with similar flooding concerns would benefit the community.
The County applied to receive Clean Water Funds (CWF) through the competitive Accelerated Implementatin Grant program administered by Board of Water and Soil Resources (BWSR) to conduct a feasbility study of the drainage area and opportunities available for temporary water storage, such as basins, perennial cover, and WASCOBs. Unfortunately the County was not awarded the grant and on January 26, 2017 the Committee decided to focus on raising awareness and building a network ofwatershed residents concerned about increased flows and runoff to JC6 and CD47.
Local residents, members of New Richland City Council, County and SWCD staff, and Network members have continud to work in the watershed to improve their application for assistance to complete a feasibility study using the next round of CWF in 2018.
